1913 the first far east games (the predecessor of the Asian games) was held in Manila, the capital of the Philippines. Since then, Chinese soccer has rarely encountered opponents in Asia. From 1913 to 1934, the far east games held a total of 10 times, the first won the runner-up, 21 years, China won the ninth far east national football championship.
In the far east games at that time, whenever the Chinese football team played against the Japanese team, they would often score 5-1, 4-0 At the far east sports meeting in Shanghai, China defeated Japan 5-0 to win the championship. At the far east sports meeting held in Japan, China defeated Japan 5-1 to win the championship again. For this reason, the extra headline of the Japanese newspaper is, “Chinese football iron army, ten years winning streak in a row”. From then on, the praise of “Chinese iron army” spread like wildfire.
In August 1936, the Chinese football team took part in the 11th Olympic Games in Berlin, Germany. At that time, the all-china sports federation set up a football selection committee to inspect the top football players from all over the country. After three months of selection, in April 1936, the list of 22 members of the Chinese football team was officially announced, including “Asian king” Li Huitang and Tan Jiangbo, the father of Hong Kong singer tam Wing-Lun. However, the Olympic journey of the Chinese football team was full of difficulties, almost impossible because of 50,000 yuan… To meet the urgent needs of the people, all the staff members of the all-china sports federation sent out in groups to seek support from the central departments of the national government and the local governments of provinces, cities and provinces across the country. After a nationwide from top to bottom, omnipresent “begging action” a total of 170,000 yuan raised funds, but is still short of 50,000 yuan. Another urgent discussion doomed the Chinese football team’s first trip to the world. The association decided that the soccer team would go to southeast Asian countries for exhibition matches two months in advance with its own funds, with ticket revenue as the cost of participating in the Olympic Games. In May 1936, the Chinese team set out from Shanghai and went to Vietnam, Indonesia, Myanmar, India and other countries. In 27 matches in two months, 24 won and 3 drew. Many local overseas Chinese even burned incense and worshiped Buddha.
In order to save money, during the two-month trip, choose the lowest class cabin when taking a boat, and find the cheapest room in the cheapest hotel for accommodation. Sometimes the beds are not enough and need to be spread on the floor. After arriving at the “performance venue”, everyone is either worried that the strong team will not compete with the Chinese team, or that the weather will not be beautiful, resulting in rainy days can not play, because it is difficult to attract a large number of spectators, reduce ticket income. Even more comically, in order to prevent cheating by local organizers, substitutes have to go to all the entrances to “monitor the tickets” during matches. At that time, there was an unwritten rule that only the winner could get more ticket income. Therefore, the main players played 27 matches without landing on the ground.
